The Madang Province is home to some of PNG's largest mountains and the most offshore island volcanoes. It also has the most languages of PNG's 850 language groups. New Tribes Mission is in the beginming stages of opening up this province for church planting teams to begin working with some of these groups. Like other PNG cities, the Japanese held the port city of Madang during WWII. The city was completely destroyed from Allied bombing. Many war relics still remain scattered throughout the area.
